The Eleven Great Hierophants
1. - March 1838 - Jacques-Etienne MARCONIS de NÈGRE:
Having inherited from his father Gabriel, the succession of the Grand Mastery of the Rite of Memphis, awakens and reactivates the Rite in France and Belgium. The Memphis Rite was restored in 1838, to come out of its underground in 1839, very tired by the multiple political persecutions of which it was the object.
On January 11, 1839, Jacques-Etienne MARCONIS de NÈGRE was named Grand Hierophant 97°. During the Palermo Convent of 1839, the degrees of the Rite of Memphis were increased to 92. Subsequently, the Sovereign Universal Council, sitting in Italy, will increase the degrees of the United Rites of Memphis and Misraïm to 95 for initiatory degrees and to 96 and 97 for the so-called administrative degrees, transmissible within the framework of a particular ceremony of High Theurgy, initially they were articulated in 90 degrees which were then brought, for the needs of the initiatory work, to 95, that had great success in Milan and France.
In the United States, the F :. Jacques-Etienne MARCONIS de NÈGRE established the Rite of Memphis in the year 1856. He stayed in New York between November 1856 and April 1857… He installed John MITCHELL…
On March 7, 1856, the Grand Hierophant of the Rite of Memphis, Jacques-Etienne MARCONIS de NÈGRE 97° gives a patent to John MITCHELL to form a Supreme Council of Sublime Masters of the Great Work, 90th degree…
On May 15, 1862, the Grand Hierophant Jacques-Etienne MARCONIS de NÈGRE 97°, administratively allies the Rite of Memphis to the Grand Orient of France. In Paris in June 1862, the F :. Harry SEYMOUR, received the 95° then the 96° from the Grand Hierophant Jacques-Etienne MARCONIS de NÈGRE 97°, as well as the patent to create the Sovereign Sanctuary of the United States of America, this patent was administratively registered by the Grand Secretariat of the Grand Orient de France, he was appointed Grand Master of the Sovereign Council for the USA.
In 1963, the Grand Hierophant Jacques-Etienne MARCONIS de NÈGRE 97°, issued the Patent N° 2005 for the institution in Alexandria of Egypt of a Mystical Temple and of the Supreme Grand Council of the Patriarch Princes Grand Conservators, 95° of the Rite.
On November 21, 1868, the F :. Jacques-Etienne MARCONIS de NÈGRE 97° passes to the Eternal East. The Grand Orient de France will no longer have the right to administer the Rite of Memphis, because the F :. Salvatore Aventore Zola, will be provisionally appointed Grand Hierophant of the Rite of Memphis in place of Jacques-Etienne MARCONIS de NÈGRE.
2. - 1874 - Salvatore Aventore ZOLA (Égypte):
On January 11, 1874, the F :. Salvatore Aventore ZOLA is elected Grand Hierophant 97th Rank of the Rite of Memphis. He founded the Grand National Lodge of Egypt.
On October 25, 1876, the F :. Salvatore Aventore ZOLA confered the 95° and 96° degrees and "Arcana Arcanorum" in F :. Giuseppe GARIBALDI, he appointed him Grand Hierophant for two years, then Grand Master of Honor "AD VITAM" of the Sovereign Sanctuary of Egypt. We then had to wait for the Grand Convent of Misraim and Memphis in Rome organized by the F :. Jean Baptiste PESSINA.
3. - 1881 - Joseph GARIBALDI (Italy):
In 1881, the F :. Jean Baptiste PESSINA, convoked the Grand Convent of Misraïm and Memphis in Rome, to complete the unification of the two Rites Memphis and Misraïm throughout the world.
The F :. Giuseppe GARIBALDI "hero of both worlds" during the Grand Convent of Misraïm and Memphis in Rome, was elected Grand Hierophant General 97th degree, he unified the Rites, Memphis and Misraïm, in one and only Order, the Order of the United Rites of Memphis and Misraïm.
The F :. Giuseppe GARIBALDI took for Substitute, (with inheritance rights and Official Member of the Sovereign Sanctuary of Venice), the Very Powerful Brother John YARKER of England, who was already Grand Master of the Primitive Scottish Rite and Grand Hierophant of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, of Scotland and Ireland. In that same year, the F :. John YARKER received the charter of the Reformed Rite of Misraïm from Jean Baptiste PESSINA, in exchange for a charter of the Rite of Memphis.
In Caprera on June 2, 1882, Brother Joseph GARIBALDI, went to the Eternal East, his Substitute, Brother John YARKER automatically took his place. He in turn appointed his Substitute, Brother Vilarino DEL VILAR, Grand Hierophant of Spain and Member of the Sovereign Sanctuary of Venice.
4. - 1900 - Ferdinand DELLI ODDI (Italy):
The F :. Ferdinand DELLI ODDI, March 30, 1900 is recognized Grand Hierophant of the Order of the United Rites of Memphis and Misraïm by the Sovereign Sanctuaries of the United States, England and Ireland, Romania, Italy, Spain, and from Egypt. He appointed Substitute Grand Master General with delegation for Europe John YARKER who succeeded him in 1902.
On September 24, 1902, John YARKER delivers to Theodore Reuss a Charter constituting a Sanctuary for Germany. It was not until 1906 that, once again, after the separate Lodges of Memphis and those of Misraïm, the Rite of Memphis-Misraïm rose to the firmament of Freemasonry in Old Egypt, in France. However, in order to divide his succession, John YARKER appointed Brother Eduardo FROSINI of Italy for the Order of the United Rites of Memphis and Misraïm.
5. - 1902 John YARKER (Great Britain):
In 1902, following a conflict with the Grand Orient of Egypt, the Grand Hierophant of the Order of the United Rites of Memphis and Misraïm, Ferdinand DELLI ODDI, resigned from these functions.
John YARKER “considered himself de facto” as the new Grand Hierophant, 97° of the Order of the United Rites of Memphis and Misraïm. Théodore REUSS, Grand Master of the Sovereign Sanctuary of Germany by a charter received on September 24, 1902 from John YARKER, the latter directed the Ordo Templi Orientis (OTO) and various small paramaconic companies.
In 1908 PAPUS will be named guarantor of friendship of the Sovereign Sanctuary of Germany and that of England, by Théodore REUSS and John YARKER on March 15, 1908. He organizes the Masonic Convent of Spiritualist Rites in June of the same year in Paris. This Convent decides the creation of a Universal Masonic Federation, working for the Glory of the Great Architect of the Universe with the old Great Constitutions of 1717.
On June 7, 1908, in the Orient of Paris, at 5 rue Jules Breton, a convent was held in the premises of the Grand Lodge of Human Rights, during which the Masonic powers of many countries were united in order to build the Universal Masonic Federation. The following Powers were present:

- The Grand Lodge of Saint John of the Elders and Accepted Freemasons of Massachusetts.
- The German Grand Lodge of the Rite of Swedenborg.
- The Grand Lodge of France of the Rite of Swedenborg.
- The Supreme Council of the 33rd for Mexico.
- The Supreme Council of the Ancient and Primitive Oriental Order of Memphis-Misraïm for Italy.
- The Supreme Grand Council and the Grand Orient of the Ancient and Primitive Rite for France and its Dependencies.

- The Oriental Order of Memphis-Misraïm (Cairo).

The honorary presidency was given to Brother John YARKER 97°, the real presidency to Brother Gérard ENCAUSSE (Papus) 96° and the secretariat to Brother TÉDER (Charles DETRE) 33°.
With the permission of the Grand Hierophant General John YARKER 97° and in the presence of Brother Eduardo FROSINI 96° and of F :. Henry MEYER 95° and also of the Delegates of the Supreme Councils, the Grand Master of Germany, Théodore REUSS 96°, gave the initiation and patent to Brother (PAPUS) Gérard ENCAUSSE 95° as G :. H :. for France.
It was decided to constitute a Supreme Grand Council, Théodore REUSS granted the patent to PAPUS on June 24, 1908.
the Grand Hierophant General John YARKER 97° instituted a Grand Orient of the Rites of Memphis & Misraïm in 33° which he kept separate with Scottish equivalences.
On March 20, 1913, the Grand Hierophant John YARKER 97° of the Order of the United Rites of Memphis and Misraïm degree passes to the Eternal East.
6. - 1913 - Eduardo FROSINI (Italy):
After the passage to the Eternal East of Brother John YARKER 97°, the Sovereign Universal Council, sitting in Naples, considering the designation made by Brother John YARKER 97th degree and also to counter the activities of the "servant of KEISER", the Brother Théodore REUSS (who sought to be elected at the top of the hierarchy to offer this honor to Germany), gave the title of Grand Hierophant General of the Order of the United Rites of Memphis and Misraïm to F :. Eduardo FROSINI (Member of the Sovereign Sanctuary of Venice and initiated in 1900 to the highest degrees of the Primitive Scottish Rite by Brothers John YARKER and Vilarino DEL VILAR).
Brother Théodore REUSS, himself, proclaimed himself 97°, to strike Venice and take revenge on the Italians and Brother Giuseppe GARIBALDI 97th degree (the devil for the Germans), he went against the Congress of Rome of 1881 and, cowardly, gave a patent to the Sanctuary of Memphis in Palermo which had, for a time, adhered to the United Rites, as the Sanctuary of Memphis alone.
The Sovereign Grand Sanctuary made up of Théodore REUSS, Aleister CROWLEY 95°, Henry QUILLIAM 95°, Léon ENGERS-KENNEDY 95° met in London on June 30, 1913 and unanimously on F :. Henry MEYER was appointed Sovereign Grand Master General 96° and Théodore REUSS 97°, Sovereign Grand Master General ad vitam for the German Empire and Grand Inspector General.
This is how Theodore REUSS betrayed the unified life of the Order of the United Rites of Memphis and Misraïm to carry out his own goals of low revenge.
Brother Eduardo FROSINI became the legitimate and regular Grand Hierophant General 97°, then founded the Italian Philosophical Rite (which, on his order, in 1921 would merge with the Scottish Rite). Later the Grand Hierophant General Eduardo FROSINI, resigned and put everything in the hands of Brother Marco Egidio ALLEGRI 96°, of Venice, Member of the Grand Sublime Sanctuary and of the Sovereign Universal Council.
The Ancient and Primitive Oriental Order of Memphis and Misraïm was the way and the foundation on which the Grand Orient of Italy was built.
7. - 1936 - Guérino TROILO (Argentina):
At the 1936 International Convent in Brussels, of the International Oriental Order of the Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis-Misraïm, F :. Guérino TROILO (Argentina) becomes Grand Hierophant World 98° 1 , with as Substitute Grand Hierophant World 97° le F :. Georges BOGÉ DE LAGRÈZE (France).
In 1936 to 1939, the Grand Hierophant Mondial Guérino TROILO 98° experienced a prosperous period, during which the Grand Master General for France, Constant CHEVILLON 96°, opened many lodges in France and abroad.
(Much confusion existed at that time, who was who? And who was what?)
On August 15, 1939, the Substitute Grand Hierophant Mondial Georges BOGÉ de LAGRÈZE 97°, declared during this period of occupation, and for services rendered to the Order, that F :. Robert AMBELAIN is proclaimed 95th degree and Member of the Sovereign Sanctuary of France, as Substitute Grand Master of France of the International Oriental Order of the Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis-Misraïm.
8. - 1944 Georges BOGÉ DE LAGRÈZE (France):
During the year 1944 the Great World Hierophant Guérino TROILO 98° passes to the Eternal Orient, the F :. Georges BOGÉ DE LAGRÈZE becomes the new 98° World Grand Hierophant.
The F :. Robert AMBELAIN 95° Substitute Grand Master of France automatically becomes Substitute Grand Hierophant World 97° the International Oriental Order of the Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis-Misraïm.
During this period of occupation the work of the Order was carried out in the greatest secrecy. In Angers, on April 27, 1946, the Great World Hierophant Georges BOGÉ DE LAGRÈZE 98° to the Eternal East in his 64th year.
9. – 1966 Robert AMBELAIN (France):
After the passage to the Eternal Orient, from F :. Georges BOGÉ de LAGRÈZE, April 27, 1946, the F :. Robert AMBELAIN Substitute Grand Hierophant World 97°, becomes Grand Hierophant World 98° of the International Oriental Order of the Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis-Misraïm. The new Grand Global Hierophant Robert AMBELAIN 98° of the International Oriental Order of the Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis-Misraïm, as well as the Grand Master General Charles ‑ Henry DUPONT 96° and President of the Sovereign Sanctuary of France of the Rite of Memphis-Misraïm , hardly prospered between 1946 and 1960.
On August 13, 1960, The Grand Master General Charles ‑ Henry DUPONT 96°, will designate in writing the F :. Robert AMBELAIN 96/98° as his successor at the head of the Supreme Council of Confederate Rites and of the “Sovereign Sanctuary of the Rite of Memphis-Misraïm for France and its dependencies”.
In Coutances on October 1, 1960, the Past Grand Master General Charles-Henry Dupont, passed to the Eternal Orient in its 84th year.
The new Grand Master General Robert AMBELAIN 96/98° of the Rite of Memphis-Misraïm and President of the Supreme Council of Confederate Rites, will establish links with the G :. O :. D :. F :. , the G :. L :. D :. F :. , the G :. L :. T: .S :. O :. but will not be joined by the unmerged rites of Memphis and Misraïm.
The Grand Master General and President of the Supreme Council of Confederate Rites Robert AMBELAIN 96/98°, founded the French Grand Lodge of Memphis-Misraïm in 1960 and deposited under the associative law of 1901, on June 22, 1963.
On June 22, 1963, the Grand Master and President of the Supreme Council of Confederate Rites General Robert AMBELAIN 96/98°, re-established the Rite of Memphis-Misraïm 1 , succeeding in the years that followed to set up a dozen lodges working remarkably , within the French Grand Lodge of Memphis-Misraïm.
It was in 1965 that the Grand Master General of the Order Robert AMBELAIN 96/98° then strictly male, opened a first female box, HATHOR working Ancient and Primitive Rite of Memphis-Misraïm.
In 1966, at the third International Convent of the Rite, Grand Master General Robert AMBELAIN 96/98°, was appointed Sovereign Grand Master World 99° and Grand Hierophant Mondial, by merging the “French Way” of Grand Master General Charles ‑ Henry DUPONT 96°, with the “World Way” of the Great World Hierophant Georges BOGÉ de LAGRÈZE 98°.
In 1982 he appointed, then installed, by a Magistral Ceremony the F :. Gérard KLOPPEL, 98th degree World Grand Master substitute.
On October 29, 1984, the 99° World Grand Master Robert AMBELAIN, recognizes the independence of the Grand Lodge Feminine du Rite from 1° to 33°.
Paris, December 22, 1984 E :. V :. , the World Grand Master Robert AMBELAIN 99° writes to T :. R :. F :. Gérard KLOPPEL Deputy Grand Master of France Global Grand Master Substitute of the Rite.
Very Respectable & Beloved Brother, I have the satisfaction of letting you know that you will take official functions as World Grand Master of the Rite of Memphis Misraïm, Grand Master of France, on January 1, 1985 at zero solar time.
On October 29, 1984, the World Grand Hierophant and Sovereign World Grand Master Robert AMBELAIN 99°, gives the independence of the Grand Lodge Feminine of the Rite from 1° to 33°. It becomes the Female Grand Lodge of Memphis-Misraïm. (The white dresses).
On the night of December 31, 1984, the World Grand Hierophant and Sovereign World Grand Master Robert AMBELAIN 99° transmits his office of Grand Master “Ad Vitam” to Gérard KLOPPEL, who becomes the new World Grand Master 99°.
On May 27, 1997 the Past Great World Hierophant Robert Ambelain 99° passes to the Eternal East in its 89th year.
10. - 1985 Gérard KLOPPEL (France):
On the night of December 31, 1984, the Great World Hierophant and Sovereign World Grand Master Robert AMBELAIN 99° transmits his office of Grand Master “Ad Vitam” to Gérard KLOPPEL, who becomes the new 99° World Grand Master.
During 1987, the T :. S :. F :. Gérard KLOPPEL received the transmissions from his predecessors Georges BOGÉ de LAGRÈZE 98° and Charles Henry DUPONT 96th degree, by the Great World Hierophant and Past Sovereign Grand Master World Robert AMBELAIN, of the integral and traditional Mystical Arcana of the Great World Hierophant.
July 21, 2007, by a Magistral Decree of Restoration of the Order of the United Rites of Memphis & Misraïm le T :. S :. F :. Gérard KLOPPEL declares:

On June 29, 2008 in BORDEAUX, creation of the Martinist Order of the United Rites (OMRU) by the late Sâr Signifer, (Gérard KLOPPEL), a few months before his death on October 5 of the same year.
The Martinist Initiatic Order (OMI) then fell into a deep sleep. A total restoration was necessary requiring a complete renewal of the structures, with as World Grand Master of the Martinist Order of the United Rites and Sovereign Grand Commander of the Sovereign Shrine of the Knights of Palestine, Sâr Glorifer (Joseph CASTELLI), President of the Supreme Council of Confederate Rites, since August 11, 2008.
On July 01, 2010, Restoration of the Martinist Initiatic Order by Sâr Glorifer (Joseph CASTELLI) as well as the Initiatic and Administrative Bodies composing the structures of the Interior Order of the Sovereign Shrine of the Knights of Palestine.
